Are most still going with black? Thinking of silver this time around! Any pros/cons of either - I still wish there space gray!

I just traded in my silver M1 Pro for a silver M4 Pro with the M4 Pro chip.

I like the silver as it’s easy to keep clean

I really love the look of the space black (i have a space grey currently) but I have heard too many reports of the coating on the black models getting easily scratched and marked, so I went with the silver.

Waiting for my black 14 to arrive Monday; last two have been silver so I fancy a change. I look after my laptops so I’m not overly worried about scratching it.

Nothing matters less to me than the color of my computer is – at least, after the first few minutes after unboxing. That being said, the black definitely looks better, but I guarantee you that the first time a scratch appears on the case, the silver will hide it a LOT better! ;)

I'm contemplating Silver.
1. Apple doesn't ship a black charger yet it does with a black cable. Not really a dealbreaker tbh but just something I noticed it would be far down the list imo
2. Ports will show more wear with Space Black, that's my main concern.
3. Fingerprints is still noticeable even on the demo Apple Store units which they clean a lot...
Even though apple claims its fingerprint resistant it will still be more obvious due to the dark nature. I mean look at the keyboards already, That's why when I'm at home I use an external keyboard and mouse wireless to prolong the life of the keyboard.
4. Silver is just a timeless apple design look, like you know it's Apple.
5. #2, less likely to show wear and tear as it's original colour.

Basically personal preference, it's up to you. My reasons were just as above, I don't know if they'll apply to you but if they do then I'm glad it was some information.

I’m in the silver camp bc I’m just naturally oily and I know how I already get the keys.

If the choice had been silver or space grey, I think I’d have gone silver. But I went space black. It does look a bit similar to some Windows laptops we have here, but that doesn’t make it wrong.

Silver is timeless for a reason, while Space Black feels like a passing trend. Just look at Space Grey—it was popular for a moment, but now its being phased out. The same will happen to Space Black when the new dark variant is introduced.

If they go with Black Hole black next, I’m on board.

seems to me space gray was around for a long minute!!?

Having had PowerBooks and the first intel Macs I can not imagine having any other color then silver. Since the thicker form factor of the M1 makes me ultra nostalgic, feeling like a PowerBook from the future.

This does not apply to the previous gen.

Black reminds me to much of the first plastic intel MacBooks from the 2006 era.

Now the 16" with nano texture I do have 17" PowerBook vibes. It is truly satisfying.

Anyone?

Space Grey is by far the best looking IMHO, but we can’t have that this generation, sadly. One of my coworkers have the Space Black and it is just too dark for my taste indoors, so back to good old Silver, I guess?

I'd go silver because lots of people on Reddit are having the paint rub off from the space black.
