Macbook Massager??!!!???

My girlfriends brand new Macbook is doing some awful strange things when a CD is inserted into the drive. She was importing a cd into iTunes and it is vibrating more than most vibrating massagers. Then the head in the optical drive will just start going back and forth quickly. If you have ideas or suggestions please let me know.

Based on that description, it sounds like your girlfriend got a real pleasurable machine there

Seriously, does it do this with all cd inserted into it or just a particular one? I know that some disks can be out of round or balance enough to cause this kind of behaviour. The way to rule this out is to simply try some different disks in it and see.

She wouldn't happen to be importing a cd and playing it at the same time is she? For example, importing track 1 whilst playing track 10. That would cause the head to be going back and forth constantly.

In all seriousness, mine does the same thing too. It doesn't sound "normal." I get a couple of loud clicks that sound like the cd is jammed before the cd is read.

Sounds like she might need her optical drive re-aligned. Seems strange she would need that when it is a new laptop though.

I'd take it back to Apple and they'll deal with it.

I think that it was a combination of things. I do believe that the cd was out of round/balance and we were also running a couple of other programs that were pulling resources. I believe that I will be looking into a nice little RAM upgrade for her for Christmas (maybe early Christmas present). lol
