Just wanted to alert everyone of the good prices on RAM for their Macbooks / Macbook Pros. I heard someone in another thread recommending a 1GB stick for $110 and wanted to make sure noone fell for that.

Kingston 2GB kit of 533MHz ram (will work in the Macs, though it's a little slower than 667MHz) -- $70 AR w/ free shipping. $95 out the door.

Of course these sticks can go in your iMac as well... so if you're in need of RAM, it's a great time of year to upgrade. This is really the first set of great deals on laptop SO-DIMMS, though prices have been steadily falling the past three months and may go a bit lower.

First things first:
It is no way recommended to run 533 RAM in the intel Macs. They are out of spec, and why in the world would you want to make the machine run slower?

Second: ClubIT lies like a rug that the RAM is 'Retail' $190 each. That Corsair RAM is their ValueSelect generic, not their Mac memory. Some people have reported it works, some have reported problems. The mail in rebate is good on one unit only, so the second Gb would not be eligible.

At the most-recommended sellers here on MR, DMS is currently at $55 - $65 per Gb OWC is $65 - $73 per Gb and Crucial is $59.99

I've run 533MHz ram in my MBP for a year now without any problems. And you ask why you'd want to use it? Uhm, because it's cheaper :]

And yes, pretty much every store lies about the "retail" price. What exactly is the difference between "Mac Memory" and ValueSelect other than the chips being tested on Macs?

Well, if you want to cripple your $2,500 machine's performance for a $15 savings, be my guest. I really counsel other MR readers to ignore the advice that 533 MHz is a cost effective solution for a Mac.

The difference is that Corsair has 2 parts: the VSA1GSDS667D2 which they guarantee Mac compatibility on, and the VS1GSDS667D2 which they don't.

The rebates are from Corsair and are limited to one per household address. Be sure to have the second module shipped to a different address... and the ZZF one expires today.
