I'am a macbook on friday can I upgrade the memory with just 1 1gb dimm or do i have to put it in a pair of 512's thanks

You don't have to upgrade in pairs. You can buy (and install) the 1GB chip.

I'd recommend you buy one chip, just so you can buy another one in the future to make 2GB
