lol, I bet I got alot of attention just by the title of this thread.

so basically, yeah I'm a windows user and I'm completely fed up with Windows and the PC world. been a fan of macs for years, and a general tech enthusiast.

like many, I like the idea of the macbook pro, but am kind of dissapointed that they didn't use a new, innovative design for the 'book.

anyway, wouldn't it be cool if Apple designed a super slim notebook? (think something along the lines of those super small VAIOs)

if it came with decent features and hardware, I would buy one right away.

This is really what I'm hoping the new iBook will be, actually. Slim and tiny... yet powerful and durable.

Once the PowerMac and iBook replacements based on Intel chips come out I'll hopefully slimline my computer setup to the equivalent of a Quad PM and the cheapest Apple 'Book. I'd love an ultra compact set up too just as long as they don't scrimp on the resolution. My basic requirements would be a minimum of a 1280x768 widescreen display and a processor speed of at least 1.5Ghz. I do want an internal DVD or Combo drive though.
That should perform on a par with the Intel 1.7Ghz P-M Dell I have now so I wouldn't be losing out.

I'm thinking that they kept the design for the very first Intel Macs because they wanted people to know that they're still Macs, they wanted people to see that they haven't changed. I bet the iBooks will have a redesign. And maybe the MacBook Pros later this year.

I'm not hopeful for an iBook re-design. The truth is that the bulk of the iBook is becuase of its rigid and toughened frame. Don't forget that the iBook's core market is students and they want to be able to sling it in a bag, drop the bag on the floor and all the things that students do...

A thin Sony Vaio style laptop would die on the first day of treatment like that. If Apple do re-design the iBook then don't expect it to be much thinner, just a little sexier.

No Redesign

I'm hoping that there won't be an entirely new design in the upcoming models of the iBook or revisions of the MacBook Pro. I think the cases have gotten to the point where they look great, and don't really need improvement. Although, then again, it won't really bother me, as I'm getting the Rev. A MacBook Pro.

As far as the super-slim notebook, I doubt any forthcoming notebooks will be smaller than the 12" models that are currently out. I'd imagine them getting thinner, but not much smaller in other dimensions.

Super-small subnotes are high-priced items, so if there is such a thing, it will not be an iBook derivative.
