Hi, can anyone help me?
I have a MacBook Pro running ios El Capitan, which was set up for me. I am a user but I am NOT the administrator therefore don’t have the admin username or passpword therefore find it difficult to install software. Can I override this or can I reformat the MacBook without these admin rights and if so how? As I say I do t know the administrator username or password. Many thanks for your help.

Before doing anything, check to see if there is a firmware password. You can do this by powering off, press the power button, hold down the option key. If there is no password, you'll be able select a boot drive.

If there is no password, you can wipe the existing drive and reload the os.

Wait, someone set up a computer for you but didn't give you the admin password?

Is this a work or school computer you're looking to take over?

Yes this was a work computer someone set this up for me and didn’t Give me the admin username/ password. Can you help?

Are you still employed by that company? Do you like your job? What do the computer use policies at your company state? If my company gave me a laptop it would not have admin rights. If I bypassed that in any way I could expect to be looking for new employment.
