So, if I have my MacBook unplugged from the charger and I'm using it and the battery dies... the MacBook completely shuts off... it doesn't even go to sleep; just shuts off. Then, I plug it back in and have to turn it on and everythign I was working on (i.e. word doc) is gone.

Any ideas?

Try repairing permissions (in Disk Utility), and resetting the PRAM (holding down P and R on start up) :)

These are just general fix-alls, good luck!

Have you been getting any X's over the battery icon in the menu bar? If you have, take your MacBook to you local Apple Store and they should give you a new battery. From what I've been reading here, this seems like a common problem.
