macbook, or Imac?

I was realy into the macbook...but since it's having sssoooo many problems,
i was wondering if should I go with Imac 17'.
I will lose the portability, but will gain more screen rex, graphics , HDD and superdrive.

i'm a photographer, and I mostly use Photoshop and Nikon Capture. i know both are running under roseta now.

i mean...i realy would love a notebook...but macbookpro is out of my budget, and macbook is having sooo many problems...and...i'm used to work with 17 inches screens...i guess I'll be anoyed by 13'...
unless i plug it into a larger screen at home..and just use the macbook lcd on the road
 
no...i dont have it

right now i'm using a pentium 3...heheheh
but i also have ans Pentium4 3ghz...both desktop
 
Go for the iMac. It's got a larger screen and dedicated graphics. Those two things will help you a lot as a photographer. :)
 
I sold my G5 iMac recently in order to get a Macbook.

The screen real estate on the imac would be fantastic for photographic work, I imagine. But if you need portability, you need portability (that was my only reason for the upgrade) and you won't be satisfied w/o it.

Don't let the talk of problems with the Macbook scare you -- I reallly think that they've been blown out of proportion, to a ridiculous degree actually. e.g., there's a thread on here somewhere where someone returned their macbook because of perceived noise and heat issues; they then bought a similarly specked Dell laptop; the Dell turned out to be *louder* and *just as hot* as the macbook was. Processors as fast as the Core Duo just plain run hot -- computing power like this doesn't come for nothing. The whole "problem" of heat and noise is, in my opinion, highly subjective, and I think that those who complain about it are, for the most part, simply operating with entirely unrealistic expectations -- the perfect, tiny, noiseless, heatless machine.

I'd say that my macbook is perfect, and I got it right at the height of the mooing/heat scare, and before the yellowing scare even cropped up. It gets warm, sure, but not ubearably "*hot*", and it's not loud by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah- I wouldn't even bother with a Macbook.... I know it's out of your budget, but if you really want a notebook more than a stationary desktop, then save up for a little while and spur the extra money for a Macbook Pro, 15". Real nice...

That's if you're set on getting a notebook... Personally, I'd go with the iMac, simply because I know they're great.


You just gotta weigh your options.... such as// would you want to be mobile with it more than on a desk? ........... pretty much it. Think about it.
 
well, most of time i'll be using it on my desk..
but now and than I go shoot on places away from any computer, so i cant see how my pics are looking (the camera lcd can't show the picky details)

another great use of the macbook (this may be stupid for most users, but i'm my bussines) is just to show off. Clients are realy driven by gadgets. as bigger the camera, the lens and stuff, better they believe you are (of corse u still need to be a good photographer), and more they'll agree to pay.

long story short: I want, but i'm too afraid of getting a macbook...hehehe
I live in Brazil, and to replace a macbook it would take like 30 days at least.

I was thinking about this too and then a friend showed me this:

You could get a nice MacBook Pro for the same price as a new MacBook. I know it's refurbished but the price is nice and it wouldn't be like buying from some schmuck ebay.
 
Since you already have two desktops, getting a laptop seems to be a good idea.

But Photoshop CS2 is not yet universal. So if it's your main app, there isn't much reason to rush out to buy an Intel Mac or the Mac version of CS2 right now unless you really need a laptop. CS3 will be comming out next year.

Or you could use the Windows Photoshop you already have in bootcamp. You need a copy of Windows, though.

that would be nice...but i'm in Brazil....here's there's no refb on apple stores( did i just said apple store? we don't have that too...hehe)
