Macbook or MBP?

This question will differ a bit from others. So, my macbook will arrive tomorrow. I plan to wait out till the keynote at WWDC to actually open it (crazy right?). The thing is, I want to see if either they will update the macbook at all or if they will announce a MBP with Core 2 Duo (C2D). If they announce the latter, then I might return my MB and wait for the release of MBP with C2D. So the question is...is it more sensible to buy a MB and buy ANOTHER MB in 2-3 years, or wait and buy a MBP w/ C2D (I highly believe it will be anounced) that can possibly last me around 4 years? The fact that the MBP has ambient light, expresscard, more vram, etc. make me really interested. So what do u guys think? Thanks.

note: it's the base MB and the base MBP i'm refering to.

I'd say it's worth waiting, if you can.

I assume the size difference won't matter to you (though a 13-inch MBP with expresscard would be sweet!)

Do you have any plans for the Expresscard?

If you wanted the MBP to last upto 4 years, perhaps consider the 256Mb video option.

Yeah, you're not crazy. Relative to the rest of us, that is...

Go with the MBP. I'm using a MacBook right now, and while they are fantabulous machines, the 13" screen sort of feels like a squished, old 15".

Heh. The reason I did buy it is so that if I decided to keep it, it will be right there for me to open (instead of waiting some days after WWDC). I don't know what I would do with an expresscard actually. It's just nice to know that I have the option to expand the MBP. I'm worried about things being made into 64 bit as well, which is the only reason I consider C2D. I really don't have the budget to go over $2000. So it's better to buy MBP now (after WWDC) than to buy another MB 2 years later which might be as powerful as a MBP w/ C2D?

Well, thanks again for the replies. The Macbook came, still in the box. It is really, REALLY tempting right now. I think I might open it today . First a question. If the MB is only able to accept max. 2GB ram, would that mean it wouldn't make a difference if Leopard is going to be 64 bit? I'm just a highschool student and now that I thought about it, I really don't need all the power of the MBP, but do have the $$ (not to brag). Better to save though. BTW, it's a week 29 (from serial on box).

2 GB of ram has nothing to do with compatibility with a 64 bit OS. A 32 bit processor is limited to 4 GB of RAM while a 64 bit processor can handle up to 16 exabyte (10^18) of RAM. Im sure Lepord will be compatible with 32 bit systems because right now, the only systems that are shipping that are 64 bit are the G5 PowerMacs (until apple announces Core 2 chips at WWDC!!!!) So apple knows not many people would be able to work with a 64 bit only OS.

As for being a high school student, keep the MB. It is more durrable than the MBP. Enjoy it through high school, then when you graduate and go off to college, get the best MBP you can with all your graduation money, or as a graduation gift!

Stick it in a cupboard, our of sight, out of mind, then see what Monday (WWDC) brings.
