Hello everyone, been lurking for a while and got an e-mail from work (work's tech support) that I'd share with ya:
Hello all! This is just an informative post on a repeated problem
seen in the laptops. The MacBook laptops have been
coming in quite often with a problem of randomly resetting. This IS
a hardware issue. The fan update and hard drive permission settings
have been shown not to work. I've done some research and it has to
do with the insulator on a sensor near the heatsink melting so it
gets hot extremely fast and shuts the computer down. It takes a few
months usually to appear and fixes from apple so far have included
replacing the heatsink and logic board. These are only temporary
fixes and chances are it will come back. So, it will be a little
while before apple figures out a more permanent fix.
A temporary fix is hold down the power button for about 6 seconds and the power light should start to blink. At this point you can let go of the power button, a second later the computer will make a loud beep, and the computer
should start. So, not the best fix, but it will be work for now.
Maybe true maybe not, but I'm seeing too many reports of this problem (random reset due to overheating) to discount it enough to buy a MB at the moment. Which is sad.
Hopefully someone can produce a firm FALSE as I think Apple makes a great product and if this is true there was no way they could tell until they already had them shipping ; ;
Please note: I am NOT in any way, shape, form or fashion trying to hurt apple in any way, I just havent seen this possibility posted in any of the forums yet.
BTW in about 10 days I'm ordering a 20" iMac (unless the Meroms get released) SOOO excited!
