MacBook Owners: In Retrospect, would you purchase your macbook again?

I am currently waiting for my macbook to come via fedex. I realize that these forums don't depict an accurate representation of the majority of macbook users, but the problems that I have read OVER and OVER (i.e. discoloration, turning off randomly, etc) have me just a bit nervous.

Why did I read about all the problems and insist on buying it? What, are you saying that I shouldn't read criticisms about a product that I am going to invest over $1000 on? I said that it had me a bit nervous, that's all.

Step 1: I want to buy a MacBook
Step 2: I go to the macrumours forum and read about all the problems people are having with their macbooks
Step 3: I buy a MacBook
Step 4: I make a thread asking people if they bought a MacBook would they purchase it all over again.

I must be an idiot because I can't see the logic in there

edit: i won't post in your thread after this, but i'm pointing out the steps you've taken to purchase an item that make no common sense.

I just said that I was a bit nervous:

STEP 1: I want a macbook
STEP 2: I research macbooks, and find that many people love them. They have their problems, but they are taken with a grain of salt, considering online forum posts are likely to depict individuals who are having problems with their macbook.
STEP 3: I am convinced that the Pro's O/W the cons, so I buy a macbook
STEP 4: Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my macbook, I consume time by posting a thread that I assume will get some interesting responses

Thanks for ruining what would have been a personally enjoyable thread.

i don't have a macbook but i know someone who does and she is very pleased with it. i believe she would purchase it again, and maybe upgrade a few things (RAM, hard drive) if she could afford it.

stop the ridiculous bantering. it's those types of posts that make people want to restrict the use of the forums by "newbies" who, in my opinion, are just here to learn. while the OP might not have made sense logically (to some accounts), it is not worth tarnishing the name of the many new mac users or potentially new users ("newbies") who are here to discover the world of macs.

that said, feel free to beat each other up during recess while the teacher isn't looking.

The thing is, people that buy products from apple before they have been reviewed, and or problems discovered, will most likely have learn't from their mistakes if their product is faulty or except the fact that impatience will get then each time, unless they have been lucky.

FWIW, yes, I would buy it again. Coming from an iBook G4 it has met and exceeded my expectations.

I could never regret owning my MacBook. I just bought it four days ago and love it. I think since this is a Mac-centric forum, Mac users will pick out the tiniest of nuances in their products they use.

I could go on and on about the "bendiness" and "creakiness while moving" Dell laptops, and the cheap feel of plastic, etc. The laptop is great and wonderful, and complaints are that: complaints.

I was just looking around and stumbled upon this thread and I just want to say to the both of you.... I could not stop laughing at each of your response to one another! I found them original and enjoyable!

With that said and all joking aside...

MyMac for the price point a MacBook is a beast Mac. But there are trade offs as for why it is $1K less than a Mac Book Pro. I was toying with the idea of a MacBook, but for my needs I got to splurge for the Pro.

Depending upon your needs is the basis of whether or not you will regret it and it sounds like you are not sure.If you don't like it, send it back and buy another box!!

I would buy it again. I miss not having a powerful graphics chip a bit (I would only use it occasionally, but still), but besides that, the size, battery life, and price have all made me very happy with mine.

I'm on my second macbook. First one had whine, moo, discoloration, and random shutdowns.

The final item there caused apple to replace it with this second one that so far has only the whine. (new plastic transferred over from my old macbook to prevent discoloration, moo exists but is inaudible more than an inch from the keyboard, and random shutdowns... we'll see.)

Overall, not worth the hassle it's been. I can't remember another apple product that has had as much wrong with it as the MBP and MB have had. If I could do it over again, I'd wait for apple to get its act together and buy a rev. B.

It's awesome to hear all of these positive responses! I'm really glad that I ordered my macbook. I am a 1st time switcher from windows, and I guess when you venture into an entirely different field, it can become kinda scary!

When I was talking about a lot of macbook negativity, I was really referring to the apple.com/support discussion board. Even though I took the posts with a grain of salt, seeing page after page of complaints would get anyone a bit worried.

Yep, I would buy it again. Actually, I am thinking of buying another one (for my wife). I have had no problems with mine. If I put my head down onto the keyboard and listen really, really hard I MIGHT hear a "whine" type of sound sometimes. It has been really good so far.

Just to make sure: You have your second MacBook; you could hear the fan turning on and off on both, but on the first MacBook it was so loud to be annoying, and on the second you can just barely hear it?

Well I'm an mbp owner, and no, I wouldn't buy it again. In fact, I'd completely leave the apple world and get a thinkpad. I need a laptop, so even though I trust their desktops, I wouldn't have much of a choice

From all the readings here and elsewhere the base model seems to have very few if any "flaws" to it over the other two 2.0 GHz models. With that said I'd go for the base model, I'm doing that soon anyway for the girlfriend as she (we really) will be selling the G4 iBook. As with all forums most people post about problems or concerns, hell I did and still bought my 20" Intel iMac
Would I buy a MB? Sure would with a "but because," I take really good care of my stuff anyway so I would buy a MBP for me due to the GFX card and a few other things. Since my gf needs to take a MB all over the place at school for teaching the MB would hold up much better for her in the long run as well as it's a touch smaller.
I think by now most of the discoloring of the plastic is done with but if some remember, the iBooks would suffer the same fate with certain people because of the oils from their hands/palms (hence Magic Eraser).
There are covers/labels to help cover the palm area if it is a huge concern in that area. As for the rest of it discoloring, that I don't know Guess you will have to keep an eye on it but it's like anything, you really want to keep it looking new even three to four years down the road...or at least I do

Exactly. The fans "cycle" the same way on both, but on the first one, it was quite audible and on this one I have to listen for it with my head next to the keyboard.

YES YOUR GETTING A MacBook Pro without the nice video card and HD.. its a no brainer if your in the market.. i'd have held out on my MBP though if i had to do it all over again.
