Macbook owners please try this

I know that the intel core duo chips produce alot of heat and as a result the macbook's case tends to get uncomfotably warm when placed on one's lap. I would greatly appreciate it if someone with a macbook could download CHUD tools from apple's website "http://developer.apple.com/tools/download/" and use it to disable one of the processors and then after about an hour of lite use ie. safari and itunes. Could you please test and see how comfortable it is when placed on your lap.

Well, I can tell now that this has been tried with the MB Pros, and disabling one CPU core made it hotter. Because the other core had to work harder to make up for it working alone.

I don't have a link, sorry. So you can take this with a pinch of salt if you want.

I use my Macbook on my lap for hours at a time and I gotta tell you it doesn't get too hot. I have upgraded the RAM which cooled it down a bit from the original configuration.

I've tried CHUD tools before and disabling 1 core gets rid of the Whine/buzzing sound but does indeed make it hotter.

Im sorry to hear that it makes the macbook hotter when one processor is disabled, I guess I will have to live with it as. By the way does anyone know of any application that can be used to downclock the processor speed on the macbook.

It gets hotter because the processor lose access to its lowest power state (C4E) when disabling one core.

The smartstep is barely utilized in mac os x though. Mine is either at 1.5 or 1.83, theres no inbetween. Technically it should be able to drop right down to 1ghz, but it doesn't (unless you remove the battery).
