And do you have it set to auto hide?

Being that 13” is not too big, I’m contemplating changing its position from bottom to left. I’ll not auto hide it though, as I like to see notification badges.

Also, feel free to share a screenshot of your desktop ...

My dock is at the bottom of the screen in a lower magnification. I also use stacks in the dock in addition to apps so there a quite a few icons there. It seems to get in the way on the left or right and there is more horizontal space than vertical. I think the bottom of the screen is the lowest value real estate -- at least for me. So, it is out of the way there. I have used auto hide in the past but I hate the lag in getting it to appear when I need it so I keep the dock always on these days. Just my 2 cents.

There's a way to reduce the lag completely, using a Terminal command.

It's in this video somewhere. If you scrub through, you should see the section where he covers Terminal commands.

I use my iPad Pro for sidecar so I like the dock on the right. I have a lot of icons and they are small but I don't have it hide. I too like to see the notifications.

Thanks for posting. I may give this a try to see how it works. The current location in a lower magnification seems to work for me but this may be an improvement in freeing up screen space.

On the bottom, hidden, with the terminal command set to eliminate the lag & make the Dock more responsive.

I don't keep any icons in my dock, and instead use Launchpad to open apps - the Dock merely shows all of the apps that are currently running and that's it. On the right side I have my Home & Download folders as well as the Trash.

I'm in agreement with others who site limited vertical space on a landscape screen, so the right (with autohide) makes sense to me. Plus I'm much more of keyboard vs. mouse/trackpad user, so hardly ever use the dock; summon everything with Alfred so my fingers rarely leave the keys.

On the left without autohide.

Vertical space is more premium than horizontal space.

And being able to see notifications, such as missed Slack messages, is more important than autohide.

On the right without autohide - As I tend to keep sidecar when needed on the left.
And even though bottom is the default setting, the vertical space saved is a strong enough reason to keep it on the L/R side
