Wow, after I saw the thread on the fire with the AC adapter I'm glad I called Apple. I have 2 Macbooks, one I bought in June 06 and one I just got 2 weeks ago. The NEW Macbook power brick was so hot it could not be unplugged without protecting my hand. I know this isn't the norm after owning another for a year.

They already shipped the new AC brick (within a day) and it's running like it should. I'm really paranoid about notebook computers because a couple years ago I left my compaq plugged in on the bed and it was smoking and burned the sheets. Good thing I was home! Lessons learned. Now, any laptop I charge I make sure I'm around when it's doing it. If you want a 24x7 computer, get a proper desktop.

I think that the lesson here is that you should have your notebook on a surface which permits airflow UNDER the unit. I don't know about your bed but mine traps heat very efficiently, putting something like a charging battery in an environment like that is probably asking for trouble.

One thing that might be considered however, is that if you are planning on leaving it stationary for extended lengths of time that you remove the battery. That should remove most of the risk of having a fire start.

It is good to hear that Apple shipped a new charger to you and did it very quickly from the sound of it.
