My MacBook has started consistently turning itself off when taken off external power. Strangely it will power itself quite happily if the lid is closed and then the cable is removed (e.g. in sleep mode). It must be plugged back in before opening the lid or instant powerdown occurs. The battery shows as charging, the test leds do the right thing but any attempt to run in battery only mode results in shutdown 2-3 seconds after cord removed.

Any ideas or is this a back-to-apple job?

I was at the Apple Store's genius bar having my mac reset (somehow the OS got corrupted and stopped downloading stuff...) and somebody else had the same problem. He had to send it back to Apple. Not too sure, but I know that it's not just you that's having this problem.
