Hi All,

I'm hoping that someone can confirm if a MacBook Pro 13 2020 (four thunderbolt ports) will work with the LG 40WP95C-W monitor using HiDPI scaling at 3840x1620? I have been reading up for a while although there are some many factors to consider and honestly I'm slightly confused.

I've seen many posts on this subject for MBP with M1, M1 Pro/Max although not on my particular model that I can find. My MBP 13 2020 (Intel) is a work laptop so I need to stick with it for another couple of years.

I currently have a Dell 27" monitor (U2715H) 2560x1440 and require more desktop space (WFH) so looking at either LG 38WN95C-W or LG 40WP95C-W. Considering the monitor purchase will be a longer term investment, I was looking to upgrade both the size and resolution, hence interested in the LG 40WP95C-W initially.

Questions:

  • Will my MBP 13 2020 (Intel) work with the LG 40WP95C-W monitor using HiDPI scaling at 3840x1620?
  • Will the LG 40WP95C-W monitor using HiDPI scaling at 3840x1620 look better than the LG 38WN95C-W at the native 3840x1600 (looking at font sharpeness)? Does the LG 38WN95C-W support HiPDI at 3840x1600??
  • Would the LG 38WN95C-W (HiPDI at 3840x1600 if it support it) look sharper than my current Dell 27" monitor? Seems they have very similar PPI.
I also bought myself a MBP 14 with M1Pro (personal) and after using the internal Retina display for a while, I find it hard looking at my 27" monitor as everything looks blurry until my eyes adjust :-|

I can't beleive how complicated this is so hoping someone can help me out!
