Macbook Pro 13 for Adobe and Windows 10

Hello!



Im going to college this october and I need a new laptop. I have a few laptops in mind:

1. Macbook Pro 13(2017) BASE
2. Macbook Pro 13 with Touch Bar (base-256 SSD...)
3. Windows Laptop

The main think will be Adobe software and light programming. Will one of these laptops be good for light 1080p video editing, BootCamp Windows 10 and all the adobe software?

Adobe software takes up a fair bit of space.

1. If configured with at least a 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM would be preferable for video editing
2. 16GB RAM would be preferable.
3. That all depends on which Windows laptop. Some are powerhouses others are not. Pretty much any in the same price range as the Macbook will have dominate power. Especially some of the light and thin models with a Quad Core i7 and GTX 1050 or 1060 graphics. They will crush the Macbook in video editing. Although the screen will likely be 1920x1080.

For video it is a tough choice between the touch bar and non touch bar. The Touch bar has a faster CPU. For the price you could deck out the non-touchbar model with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Which would likely be better in the long run.

I wouldn't advise purchasing a MacBook to use as a Windows machine, and my understanding is that Premier Pro isn't optimised to run on Macs. Personally, I switched from Windows to Mac for Lightroom and my experience with the product has improved vastly, but I don't hear good things about Premier Pro...

Premiere pro.... but when all the adobe stuff is alredy on macOS.... just those programs that are not on macOS!

All of these laptops would probably meet your needs. If it were me, personally - I would opt for the 2017 model without the touchbar, and 16 GB of RAM and a 512 SSD. Pricing wise, a nTB with 16 RAM and 512 SSD is only $100 more than a touchbar with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 SSD. If you do not mind carrying around an external hard drive wherever you go, then the hard drive size isn't quite as significant. If that isn't convenient, even 256 could get filled up very fast with your usage if you are storing a lot of files to the local disk.

Just wondered if you might be better off with a Windows laptop? It is worth looking at these days.
