My new MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro detects the external display but the display does not display anything. It's just a black screen.

Turning off the display removes it from Display Prefs. Turning in on again shows it in Display Prefs. But the display wont display anything. Its a USB-C external display. It works just fine with the old MBP 13" 2018.

I have this issue with an Asus monitor. It happens with or without a docking station connected. I’ve found that the issue is related to refresh rate. It keeps defaulting to 75 hz. I open preferences and set to Variable Refresh Rate. That brings it back. If I unplug the dock or monitor and plug back in, the settings go back 75hz and a black screen. If anyone knows how to fix it, let me know.

I have the same issue with a Dell U2415. How do I change the refresh rate? I cannot find any articles on this that work for me. Now I have the additional problem that I accidentally set the external black display to be my main display, which means as soon as it is plugged in, the display settings window switches over there in the black abyss and I'm stuck. Any idea on how I can change that back?
