Music producer here who mains a 2019 13 inch mbp i5 base model. was about to get a 14 inch 10 core 1 TB new mbp, now im reading on these forums that the 14 has "disappointing battery life and bad thermals" according to benchmarks, when compared to the 16 inch of same specs. I watched some benchmark videos and got worried. After 2 hours of some crazy unrealistic blender project, the 13 inch M1 pro had 63% battery left, 16 inch M1 Pro had 68% left, and the 14 inch M1 Pro (the one i want to get) had 44% which is much less than all of them.

is this true in real world scenarios though? i never push CPU 100% in my projects on both mac mini M1 or 2019 mbp, its always like 30-40%. even though the battery life is abyssmal on the i5 mbp, like 1 hour of hard producing. I also never am going to be without power for several hours.. idk. i just assumed the 16 would have more battery life but didnt expect the 14 to have so much less, less than 13 inch. But i guess its still going to be better than my 2019 i5 intel 13 inch.
anyone here chime in with realworld experience of 14 inch and battery life/heat?

The most likely reason the 14" had less battery power remaining than the 13" after the test you saw is that it was doing more work. The same Blender project will be done faster or better (depending on the task) by the 14", so letting both operate at top ability for two hours will accomplish different amounts of work and use different amounts of power. For tests where they do the same amount of work, the 14" might actually have more power left than the 13".

The 16" does have a larger battery.

You're unlikely to have heat or battery trouble with the 14" given what you say about your usage.

yeah watching these i forget that the 14 has 30W smaller battery, obviously its going to be less battery life
