Hello all,

I just received my MBP 14in base model on Friday, and upon opening there was damage to the bottom side of the casing. I will add photos at the end. I bring this up because I now find myself in a predicament and would like to see if anyone has any previous experience like this to help guide me.

When I contacted apple support Friday, they told me my only 2 options are return for refund or return for replacement. Of course, I prefer to get a replacement, however if I do this option I won't receive my replacement MBP until mid December. Ugh. On top of that, I have a trade in kit for my current MBP coming tomorrow, and I have been waiting for a senior support rep to call me to get that delayed.

MY biggest question is : would it be stupid to just not worry about the damage that it has, use it as normal, and just carry on? I do not know if this is the type of damage that would affect performance or that could somehow limit the ways that the MBP could run. Of course it's never a good sign to see any damage on such a fragile item, but I just want the thoughts of others!

If you keep the damage ask for 10% off. Don't keep a damaged OOTB computer at full price.
Thank you Brien, I haven't even thought about this option. How would I even go about getting a percentage of my purchase back? Also, I did purchase this on my Apple Card with monthly installments, just an FYI.

Happened to me on my 12“ iPad Pro. It had scratches on the back OOTB. Apple Support did let me keep the iPad until a replacement was ready, which took about 5 weeks.

Maybe try asking if they could do the same for you?
This is 100% the outcome that I am needing and hoping I can get, trying to think of the best way to approach the situation in order for Apple to accommodate that for me.

Which model? The m1 max had no faults. The pro's has scratches. Maybe they take more care for the max models.

That’s just the bottom cover which they can replace easily. Talk to support and see if they can provide a new bottom cover.
What about the instability of parts for repair right now? I get the feeling they would just want to replace the entire MBP, instead of unscrewing the back panel and replacing it with a new one.

if everything else is good with the Macbook I would request for the bottom cover replacement instead. Who knows if any other issues arise with your new replacement.

I would return for refund. You don't want that scratch if you decide to sell or trade it in later. Return for replacement may be from the replacement stock versus getting new if you re-order. Cancel the trade and request the refund. Hopefully you've got a store nearby.

I'd be asking, how did it even get scratches like that? I'd be worried less about the cosmetics and more that it had sustained some kind of impact damage during shipping or packing - who knows - but I wouldn't want a brand new expensive computer to look like it had been kicked across the floor. Definitely send that one back and ask for a replacement.

You guys have been extremely helpful and supporting!! This is my first post ever on the forums and I am extremely happy with the result.

My plan is to: Reach out to an apple senior support person, request at least 10% back on my purchase, and also request a replacement or return whatever is going to get me a NEW laptop fastest. I will update with how things go along the way.

FYSA, if you return the new MBP it will cancel your trade in and if you've already sent in the trade in they will return it to you. Happened to me last month.

I normally don't care about little scratches, but this one looks bad. Return it! Can you go to apple store? They have base models readily available

Hello everyone,

UPDATE 11/9. I finally heard back from Apple's Post Sales support department,

They have agreed to put me in the front of the line, and replace the MacBook by Friday. I am returning the original Mac tomorrow and they assured me that they will be replacing it with a brand new one, not any type of back stock or replacement shelf laptop. This is the best result I could have gotten as my biggest worry was that the replacement wouldn't arrive until Mid December.

THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU, for your ideas and advice!

Great outcome! Did they end up giving you something back for the situation? Either way. I am very glad they took care of you and got you a timely replacement.

Welcome to the Forums @BashMacbookPro and great to hear that it's been resolved so satisfactorily. Just to say that I don't think they can replace the bottom lid quickly - the engraved serial number is unique for every machine, so this has to be made and delivered.
