Hello!

What is the coolest (low fan speed) MacOS for Macbook pro mid 2014 15", has anyone tested?

I have a medical disease so this fan noise is making me crazy, until i buy the m1, what MacOS should you recommend?

Using El Capitan today, its very cool but some apps dont work.
(Turbo Boost OFF, smcfancontrol ON).

Thank you.

I have had a mini Late 2012 since 2013 with Mountain Lion, Mavericks, El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra, Catalina, and Big Sur, subsequently, and the mini have scored equally in Geekbench with all of these macOS versions, and it never goes beyond barely audible default 1800* rpm, unless I encode video. Technically, a mini isn't principally different from a laptop from that era, except that it has a more efficient cooling system. The best OS in my view has been High Sierra and Big Sur, out of which one is better I can't decide, really, because they are too different from each other. So my take on this is that the macOS version doesn't really matter when it comes to fan speed. It's hardware decisive. Obviously, the best thing is to keep it free from dust, lint, and debris, so it can cool off optimally.

*In MBP's the default fan speed is 2000 rpm.

I'm running my 2015 MacBook Pro 15 on Mojave and I think that it's better than anything newer. I had been running it on Monterey but I am seeing memory leak problems on both Big Sur and Monterey so I moved the 2015 back to Mojave and am very happy with it. I have no doubt that High Sierra uses even fewer resources and I am running High Sierra on my 2009 and 2010 iMacs but you lose functionality the farther back you go.

Hmm, so this means El Capitan will have less fan speed i think :(

Gah, why is the new macbook so expensive.

they should be the same price as in 2010 like the base MacBook Air and Pros
but apple will get $250 more for additional SSD space and more cash for RAM.

Mojave seems the quietest OS since mountain lion on my Macbook Air and Macmini.
High Sierra really reved up the fans and noise compared to ElCap and sierra

This is interesting? So Mojave has "lower cpu temp" than High Sierra? Hmm, someone need to compare all this.

I wish someone tested same setup on a <-2014 macbook. What MacOS gives lowest temps?

this test was just my experiences, no numbers or data needed!
