Hi all,
a friend of mine asked to replace his MPB sdd since it seemingly died. So i bought an adapter and an NVME ssd and proceeded with replacement.
This is something i had done before and pretty straightforward.
The ssd was not recognised so i booted from a USB hard drive i have, with high sierra and noticed the WiFi was not availble. The Trackpad does not appear to be damaged, but it does not work. Also the keyboard is not working. Last thing i noticed is that Thunderbolt does not appear in System Report too. Fans are spinning at full speed
Also the battery is very swollen and i am thinking of replacing it.

So my questions are:
- has anyone seen something similar?
- could it be caused by water or dampness damage?

Did you reset the SMC? That deals with some of the things you list.
  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Press and hold Shift, Control, and Option on the left side of the keyboard. At the same time, press the power button.
  3. Hold for 10 seconds.
  4. Release the keys and then turn on your Mac.

the keyboard does not work and i have already tried with a usb one. i also tried unplugging the battery and press the power button for about 15 seconds with no result.

My friend told me he went to bed and woke up with the laptop crashed and fans at full speed. it seems to me like the logic board failed.
I will try and post on Louis Rossman's forum and see if i can attempt a board repair
