Macbook pro 16' 2021 screen/lid

Inside the body of the screen lid, of the new macbook pro 16' 2021 but possibly in many more mbp models,
at the perimeter, is this a rubber line around the screen?
I am not sure, even when I touch it.

If yes, then what is the purpose of its existence?
Protect the closure of the lid?
Keep the dust outside the inner body when the mbp is not operating?

I would like to know what it is and the real usage.

I know on my MBP Retina 2012 it was hard rubber, I used to clean my screen with isopropyl alcohol and its a nightmare for perishing rubber. I did this as a recommendation by apple on the website and they still do today, to clean the screen of older and current displays.

Anyway mine degraded that much it fell away in chunks and went like soft chewing gum, I had the screen replaced under in 2016 under 6 yr consumer law and have never used isopropyl alcohol since and its still perfect today.

I use distilled water and an optical microfibre cloth, and do so now on my current 2021 16 inch.

Anyway long story short, yes its still rubber so AVOID the alcohol no matter how much apple recommend it as it degrades rubber! its a bumper to keep the glass of the screen off the keyboard and stops glass hitting the aluminium top case.

I assume it's so the glass doesn't scrape on the keyboard when the lid is closed.

Yes, the rubber gasket is to protect the screen and the top case from each other when you close the lid. Would be metal on metal otherwise.
