Hi guys. So I've been using the MBP 16" 2021 since the 1st of November. It's been fine and a few hours ago while watching a video the left speaker started to sound weird. And crackling. I thought it's software I tried rebooting it. Going to safe mode. It's the same. I've got a video showing a recording of a song playing in Spotify. This happens on everything.

Sometimes it sounds fine and every once awhile it crackles. Sometimes it's just bad. Check the video on the 47 seconds. And listen. You'll be able to hear when it's so bad

Is it a dud? Why now though. It's been fine these few months I've gotten it.. any input? Thanks

When I received the computer on the first day, I found that no matter the size of the audio, there would be a similar broken sound, but it did not repeat from the second day, I thought it was a hardware problem, and I chose to replace it, but I 's second computer was proposed for replacement yesterday, because of the defective assembly, the screen will rub against the aluminum case, which is unacceptable to me, and yesterday I also posted a thread about this matter.

Huh. Weird. So did Apple acknowledge that the sound thingy was a hw issue?

I am in China, and within 14 days of receiving the computer, I can apply for a return or exchange. I only need to describe the problem I encountered, and Apple will arrange to enter the exchange process.

I see. Thanks for your input. I can send it back to repair but the seller said it might take 2-3 weeks and it depends on the availability of the parts. I can't do that since i really need to use it for about 6 months. I'm so sad right now :( so unlucky

Hi White

Sounds like the speaker is vibrating in the case and not properly locked down. I had similar issue with a 16" M1 Max that was received on 12/14. Was fine for the first two weeks, but then this same vibration happened. I returned it as I had another one on order for delivery 02/18. With all these reports of speaker issues, I sincerely hope this new unit does not also have a speaker problem.

Sometimes it's like the speaker is broken tho. It doesn't feel like it's vibrating. Also in random times it'll crack. Like a crack then it's gone. On the left side too of course. So weird.

Hi White:

I have read other reports where it was traced to glue that holds the cone to the enclosure failing. Here is the reference:

https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/comments/r41ahi
I know the it is reddit reference but it does seem plausible.

Here is my post on MacRumors about a noise coming from the left speaker:

If you read through this thread, one owner of an 2021 MBP got Apple to open up his unit after reporting a rattle at low frequency. They found a small rock in this unit that was causing the problem.

It looks to me as though Apple has a hardware/assembly issue on these new computers that are causing issue with speakers.

Yep. It is weird though since it's not happening on low frequency. I usually notice it when it's about 800hz . And the weird thing is. It's not a consistent thing. On random times it causes a pop. But yeah. I can't reproduce it if I went back to the same clip.

It's one thing if I can reliably reproduce it. But like on the night it happened. After a few hours with playing with the tone generator. It's just gone. No cracks/pops. No weird issue. It works till this evening when it started again.

So yeah it is weird how it's not consistent. If it was it might be a blown thing right. Since it's gonna sound like that 24/7. But the fact that it was fixed for hours before going bad again. There might be something weird happening. Idk exactly because it's not rattling or anything. But yeah. You might be right . Something might be weird inside it.

I had a similar experience with an intermittent vibration. I was never able to track down with a signal generator the exact frequency at which the vibration would occur. Probably because it was intermittent.
It also seemed that it occurred on low frequencies.

The difference in frequencies that individuals are reporting most likely has to do with where the speaker defect is located.

But all of this may just be speculation as all we have is anecdotal information.

I am a user of Davinci Resolve. I know if the clip has not been rendered i can get a “crackling” sound when playing on the timeline. Happens on my 2016 MBP as well.

I would have them replace or fix that, clearly you have a problem.

Definitely. But I can't right now. Need to use it 3 weeks from now . for about 6 months. And the estimation is about 2-3 weeks or more if I send it today since it seems like since I've bought mine before it's official in my country. They need to bring it to another country afaik. And they said it depends on the availability of the parts too. So yeh. I'm probably gonna send it after that 6 months.

As long as it's not doing that all the time. I can deal with it I guess. Just bad luck I guess. Sadly.

Seems so familiar to me, I've experienced that twice in the left speaker, seems not an uncommon issue, and always the left speaker involved:
