the macbook was not turning on.

had a burnt mark on u8600 near it's corner

it wouldn't go from 5v to 20v

I applied 8v to ppbus_g3h, after that the Mac went from 5v to 20v

but u8600 was getting very hot, I took it out and tested it out this NAND has internal short to GND on PP1V8_SSD1. so bye bye DATA recovery.

but now the mac without the U8600 NAND is only has PP5V_G3S and PP3V3_G3H_T

no CPU or RAM voltages and current is at 0.070mA

should it boot normally to a blinking folder, without 1 of the NAND (like no SSD drive on the older models)?

did someone took a nand chip out like me, and knows how the Mac react missing 1 of the SSD NAND?

I just want to be sure, before buying a nand chip. that this is the way the board behave with a missing SSD NAND

i have similar problem with same model, i remove u9580 and find nand is internally short to ground, im not sure if nand from donor can be substituted and if it can, does it need to be from same spot on donor board, supposidly there is firmware from t2 chip stored on the nand but is it on all chips? let me know if you ever get an answer on this

This is pure speculation (but it's my best guess):

From what I see from the pictures It seems to be in BGA110 package. This package type is also used the NVMe NANDs in later iPhones (iPhone 8 and later). And if it's anything like iPhone NANDs. It has to be paired to the Controller (which would be the Apple AX chips in iPhones and T2 in this case).

You can find the BGA110 NAND programmers and videos of people doing NAND upgrades of these chips (and earlier chips) on youtube.

The kick is that there seems to be a value that you have to populate as in (MAC address, serial number, operation mode, and so on) that might have to be populated before it becomes usable to the controller. (and you might need these data to be pulled of the old chip before you upgrade/replace original NAND.

Actually it would be nice if you can get one of the BGA110 programmers, and try to read data off the good NANDs to test this theory, and maybe what fields are populated.

if data on your working NAND can be copied on to the new NAND that are sourced for iPhones with the same package, it might work. (But you have to replace every NAND)

From what I looked so far there are no real documentation regarding this. Only tools and software from China. Maybe one can try to reverse-engineer those tools and adapt it to Macs in the future :/

I know it shares the same NAND as iPhones and iPads, i used to take iPhone NAND and programming them to iPads, but in some cases the iPad won't restore or did restored but the gyro sensor was 90 degrees uncalibrated.

the NAND programmers I have seen are only for iPhones and iPads, and are very very limited and buggy.

since checkm8 exploit, we should be able to reprogram the NANDs after jailbreak, without an external programmer. it works on iPhones and iPads.
