Has anyone experienced their Macbook Pros crashing? My 16 Max has crashed twice (froze and restarted itself) since I got it last week. Both time, I was just watching youtube videos. I have problem report if anyone know or understand anything. I just hope it's nothing serious. I just got it so I can return it if I needed to but it would suck anyway.

I'm just copying and pasting the first couple of lines from the problem report. If anyone can help me, that would be great thanks.

Funnily enough I managed to get my MBP 16 to hard crash along these lines within 5 minutes of getting it!

I was playing around with some HDR videos on Youtube (in Safari) and it locked up. Not happened since.

Is this not a common thing for M1 macs? Glad im not using my mbp 2021 oftenly, it's not my main system.

That's exactly what happened to me. I was playing HDR videos in my Brave browser both time when the system just froze and restarted.... i wonder if it's a software issue... since you seem to have had it happen as well

I would be worry, when it's only affecting m1 max. I heared about crashes of M1 systems. Never used one. The 2021 model is my first macbook.

Here your problem:

No. You're obviously trolling here. Is it fun?
I've used the M1 MacBook Air for a year and now the 14-inch and I've NEVER had any kernel panic / system crash / sudden restart. Even when I've installed those Citrix crap on both machines for VPN/remote connection to my company.

I have seen someone on youtube crash his M1 Max also using Unity (ARM version) I believe. He basically had to force restart his M1 Max to get it working again.

Well, you say in other threads that you've returned yours so I guess that's why you're not using it much, hmm? I'm beginning to doubt that you've ever owned one of these machines, because first you say (falsely) you can't order the config you want in Germany, then you say you've bought one and returned it, then you say you're still using one... Either you're fabricating the whole thing or you're just trolling, or both.

I send 16 gb crap versions back and got this m1 max 32 gb version yesterday:

I could buy the 32 gb ram m1 max version from a retailer 3 days before, because i have a crawler for this. It's also helpful for gpus :D.

I am not an expert by any means, but this is my best guess as to what's happening:

> panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffe0024033d68): DCP PANIC - IOMFB int_handler_gated: failure: axi_rd_err [0x40300034]
- iomfb_driver(8)

The panic is being reported on CPU 0 (the first CPU), which is one of the efficiency cores.

This appears to be a fatal crash in the display coprocessor, or DCP. It has something to do with IOMobileFrameBuffer, which is used to manage the screen's framebuffer. (source: https://iphonedev.wiki/index.php/IOMobileFramebuffer)

I think "int_handler_gated" refers to an interrupt handler.

> RTKit-1826.40.9.debug - Client: local-t600xdcp.release

"RTKit" is Apple's custom real-time OS used on many of the coprocessors embedded in Apple silicon chips. The DCP is one of those coprocessors. (source: https://asahilinux.org/2021/08/progress-report-august-2021/)
What's interesting is that the version reported here appears to be a debug version.

"t600x" refers to the CPU model number for the new M1 Pro/Max Macs: M1 Pro is T6000, and M1 Max is T6001. (M1 is T8103.)

tl;dr The display coprocessor crashed.

Hope this helps!

My M1 Max 32 GB got stucked twice in MacOS. I was surprised if this ARM chips are not optimalized for OS and maybe they are in early stages ??

I always expect a new OS running on new hardware to have some crashes or noticeable bugs until we have a few OS updates but so far everything has been solid and haven't experienced anything to irritate me.

This is a bug, another thread on this about 4 pages. I updated to 12.1 beta and it doesn't happen, this will be fixed with the .1 release.

just an update. I contacted apple support. Told them about the problem and we went through steps to test the kernel panic, which happened every single time in the first 10 sec, using Safari for HDR videos. I'm now doing a clean install of Monterey to see if that'll help... write back later with updates

Finished over an hour of diagnostics and remote support from Apple support. Uploaded system info to Apple and will be hearing back by early next week. For some reason, when the remote screen sharing was activated, I couldn't get the system to freeze while watching HDR video/scrolling on the page. As soon as support paused the screen sharing to test, freezing continued. Also ran the system diagnostic tool for hardware related issues during start up and came up clean. Will update next week and see what Apple finds in my uploaded files. Would also like to add that freezing seems a lot easier using Safari than my default browser, Brave. Some times I would start the video, scroll a few inches down the page and the whole thing freezes, under Safari.

It's the same issue I reported here:

Apple is aware of the problem (please still submit the bug report for tracking) and it should be fixed in some version of Monterey down the line.

thanks. I saw your thread from a post someone made in my thread. I just wanted more awareness by contacting them directly since this is a brand new product with brand new issues.

I have the exact same issue, frozen and reboot each time I watch HDR on YouTube or other sites, besides, when I am downloading multiple games from Apple Arcade while browsing, it also crashes too, can be replicated even in safe mode.

All this talk about crashes with the M1 doesn't bode well. I wished I'd have looked at this forum before I ordered mine. I normally wait until all the problems are ironed out before jumping in. ... I've been using Macs since the first came out. I guess I was just too impatient to see how well the M1 will stand up to my iMac quad core Intel.

There has never been a laptop (or iMac) sold that didn't have crash issues, as far as I know. This particular issue appears not to be too serious, at least if it can be avoided for now by not scrolling comments while watching HDR. I've watched HDR without any issue, but I don't scroll comments while watching anyway.
