So basically, it’s time to get a new laptop this year. I don’t have a personal laptop right now so there’s no “I’m coming from X, will Y be a big enough performance leap?”-question.

The usage for this laptop will be mostly daily tasks (mail, safari, note taking) but I’d also like to get into more music recording by myself. I’ll only record 1-2 channels at the same time, but it would be nice to be able to make some rock music at home with a drum sampler and stuff, so like 24-48 tracks at the same time.

I’m also playing in a band, so there will be some light music video-editing, light photo editing and other related stuff. The plan is to get a good mirrorless camera I can use for both photos and videos as well but that’s a different headache!

And lastly, I’ll be playing some games on the computer as well. I’m very much a recreational gamer, but from time to time I play a game from start to finish,

And also, I’d like to get as big of a screen as possible since i like bigger screens and I won’t be using it with an external monitor that much, and I don’t mind the extra size and weight.

the only thing I know based on the stuff I listed above is that it’s either getting a MacBook Pro 16” M2 Pro or wait for the 15” air that will be released this year (if we’re lucky), but I’m also not sure which specs to get.

I don’t think that I need anything more advanced than the M2 Pro chip (if even that), but at least 16gb of ram and 512gb hdd (I’ll be using external hard drives as well) is required… but should I opt for even more ram?

The plan is to keep the laptop for as long as possible, my last MacBook Pro ram for 7-8 years before it died and it would be nice to get a similar life span from the new laptop.

If you’re going to wait on a computer that is just a rumor and has nothing to substantiate those rumors other than people saying they want one then that’s a long wait.

Well I probably won’t buy a computer in the next weeks but probably closer to summer so then the rumors should be either more “confirmed” or not?
