Fairly often when my mac is closed in sleep mode, the system will restart itself rather than go straight to the login screen. This seems to be the issue from my log:

10:53:43.713836+0000 powerd SMC shutdown cause: 5: Software initiated shutdown
10:53:44.353228+0000 powerd hibmode=0 standbydelaylow=0 standbydelayhigh=0
10:53:44.353260+0000 powerd Failure during sleep: RP17(IOBufferCopyController AppleSEPManager AppleANS2Controller) : Some drivers failed to handle setPowerState

Any help would be appreciated

I have the same issue with my 2015 MBP 15” but only on OSes after Sierra. So I downgraded to Sierra and haven’t tried Catalina.

Apple haven’t helped much the 20 times I’ve talked to them but they asked me about accessories connected so I figured I’d give you that tips but I mean I didn’t solve it but I didn’t want disconnect my audio interface, external display, USB-hub etc to troubleshoot it but the problem might have been there.

No problem!
I hope you’re getting it solved, otherwise Apple should replace it I had my computer for little over a year before the OS was released so I couldn’t really be ballsey about it but demand that unless they solve it and contact the Apple Support and let them fix it if they can.

Does it restart every time it wakes or randomly? Mine did it randomly, sometimes 1 every other week and sometimes 4-6 times per day (rarely that it happened that often).

I really hope you figure it out! Good luck!

completely randomly yeah, only issues are this and a bit of gpu whine in photoshop. Hopefully if it comes to that I can fix both issues in one swap. Always a gamble with coil whine though. So i I can fix the restarting i'l just deal with it.

Having this problem as well
Same. I just received my MBP 16" yesterday, and it's crashed three times in less than 24 hours, all after I've left the computer alone for some time. I even upgraded to 10.15.4 as soon as I received the thing (knowing how buggy Catalina was) yet it's still crashing. And it's not like I'm putting the computer through anything crazy right now (Spotlight indexing, etc.) I even set it up as brand new.

Very disappointing for a brand new Mac.

Resetting SMC and NVRAM fixes it for me. Hasn’t happened in a month or two
So I tried this, and it didn't work -- my brand new MBP crashed for the fifth time in less than 24 hours of owning it. The log:

I was able to fix it! I posted this in another thread (I was looking for help and created a new post) but here's the gist:

I tried a number of things, and finally found a fix that's worked for at least 48 hours now: the SMC reset.

When I first read about the NVRAM/SMC reset, and did some googling, I thought they were the same thing -- that it was just one thing getting reset. Turns out I was wrong. The NVRAM reset did not fix things, but the SMC reset finally did. No sleep crashes (or crashes of any type) ever since.

The exact steps I took: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295, under the section "Reset SMC on computers that have the T2 chip"

It's been three days now with no crashes. Try it and see if it helps!

Having similar issues, resetting SMC didn’t help.

I finally broke down and did a clean install. That really helped for awhile but eventually had the wake from sleep crash. Charger was plugged in at the time.

Not my area of expertise, but surely it has to be some kind of software/firmware bug? Don’t want to go through any return or exchange if it will have the same problems until a fix is pushed out.

Those resets helped before a clean install. The resets started back later, albeit less frequently.
