Hey guys! Really new here, but need some help please! I have a MacBook Pro 16” bought new from Best Buy in Sept 2020. Everything has been fine until the other day- noticed the battery was low (like 4%) and plugged it in to charge, shut the lid and walked away. Came back later to the thing completely dead, no signs of life whatsoever. I bought a new 96W power brick and usb c cable yesterday in hopes that was the problem - but I’ve had it plugged up all night and still nothing.. what should I do?! I bought a pentalobe screwdriver set to take the thing apart if need be.. I just need some guidance.. plz help! TIA

My 2019 MacBook Pro did something similar last year. I let it sit for like 5 days with no charge and then plugged it in and it worked. You can also try pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds with the charger in and then turning the MacBook on after a couple of seconds.

That would be great if it would decide to work again without anything invasive haha 😆. Been a couple of days now so i'm kinda starting to loose hope that's gonna happen. I've tried all the trouble shooting I can find - resetting the smc and everything.. no to avail 😔.

i'd be off to an apple authorised repair centre, if it were mine.
they would have the diagnostic tools to ascertain the exact problem
Yea that's my next course of action if I can't find a solution pretty soon.

Do you have a brick n mortar Apple Store anywhere near?
If so, make an appt for the genius bar, and take it in and let them look at it.

They have an app, "Apple Configurator 2", that -might- be able to "revive it", just like that.
No promises.

If Fishrrman's solution does not work than you will need a new Logic Board...which can be expensive. So you may as well replace it with a new 16". But do wait, do not buy one right now because new models might come out in a couple of days. Hope it works out for you!

I don't unfortunately. I got in touch with apple and they said to take it to an authorized computer shop near me. Maybe they will have something similar to help diagnose? I plan on taking it this week.

Eww.. i hope not 🥺I'm trying to finish some online classes and really can't afford to have to drop a lot of money on it or a new one right now. It's only 3 yrs old, I figured I'd get way longer usage out of it before any problems. Pretty disappointed in that regard. Fingers crossed 🤞its something really simple and relatively inexpensive to fix or replace.

there
does the MacBook Pro turn on at all?
I re read some posts here
if so:
try adjusting the screen brightness.
sometimes the system will lower the screen to dark or 1 when the battery get that low automatically.
this helped several MacBooks over the years.

keep up posted!

No signs of life at all unfortunately. I've got nothing on the touch bar or any haptic response from the trackpad, that's how I knew there was no power at all. The ole girl is just tired lol. Good idea though, I appreciate the advice.

my 2010 MBair still works, though I need to power that on with power on pads.
im trying to find out if these later MacBook pros have this feature, but I think  stopped adding this in 2016.

is there a chime when turning that on?

If you do decide to open it up, the first thing you should do is disconnect the battery and plug it into a power source to see if it then turns on. A damaged battery can actually prevent the computer from powering on or make it unstable even if it does power on. With my old 2011 MBP, this happened and if I disconnected the battery, it'd work perfectly normal.

I also experienced the same issue on a friend's PC laptop once. She gave it to me to repair because it was bricked, but it turned out that it was just a completely dead battery. If you removed the battery and plugged into a power source, it would run just fine, but if you put the dead battery back in, it'd either refuse to power on, or it would run, but erratically. It'd lose power without warning the first time the processor had to do any real work.
