Macbook Pro 17" issues? Anyone?

Hi, i am going to buy a stock 17" mbp, as i have no need for 64 bit as far as i am concerned (i only work in photoshop, flash, dreamweaver and play a few games while doing the obvious browsing, listening to music and so on)...

But now on to my question, are the 17" mbp facing the same issues as the 15"? i have followed this forum intensely for the last couple of weeks now, but without any eligible answers..

If you have a 17" mbp, answer this:

Does it have any issues or annoyances? if so explain hehe

i just placed an order for the 17" stock last night & i'd like to know the same thing... but from what i've read so far on these forums... it seems as though the 15" has had more problems then the 17"... most of the threads complaining or reporting problems tend to be from 15" owners... let's hope the 17" holds out better

Far as performance, its ok.

Regarding screen and useability.. its just fine.

The screen is bit heavy and wants to shut if the computer is used anywhere else besides flat table. Kind of useless if you ask me. Definitely I'm going to reconsider on my next Mac purchase.

are you going to reconsider getting a 15" next time because of what you posted about the 17"? other than what you wrote, there weren't any problems like noise and what not?

My new week 34, 15.4" MacBook Pro has no issues. It's the 2.16Ghz version.

No whine and it is cooler than the 2.0Ghz version I had before.

My week 38 build arrived last night - thumbs up based on my limited use thus far.

No cosmetic issues to speak of - no cpu whine - no screen inverter buzz - no fan noises - warm under load, not enough to call it a problem though. It is slow with only 1 GB of ram - another module will be arriving in the morning to fix that.

I a really improved MBP is released shortly I will probably eat the restocking fee and go for it. But this one looks excellent thus far.

From what I hear, a 17" model is more stable than a 15" sibling. Except for the lakc of Merom chip in it and a self closing heavy screen, the unit itself seems to be solid. Maybe Apple should add a bar on the side which can plop up the screen so that it does not close when you tilt the computer.

a friend of mine has a fairly new 17" MBP that keeps having random shutdowns. the guy at the applestore told her to wipe out her harddrive and reinstall osx, but i dont know how in the **** he expected her to be able to do that. good thing i was around...

not even sure if the installer disk was prompted to run a full reinstallation, i dont know... its fishy...

From first hand experience, I'd say that the 17" is definitely more stable than the 15". I had to bump down to the 15 due to portability issues but other than that, the 17" was solid. Never an issue with anything, except that screen was pretty heavy and everytime I carried it around, the screen would just fall shut.

However, this 15" I have now (with the exact same specs as the 17" except the DL superdrive) has a few problems too. It's always locking up my router (never had this with the 17") and my trackpad button is always getting stuck. But then again, the issues I'm having may just be with this specific one I have. I'll probably get it checked out soon.

To weslobombs, it's so simple to do a reinstallation of the OS! If she didn't know how, the Genius or whoever helped her should have showed/told her how to do it.

My new MBP 15" is perfect. Dunno what the serial number is. All i know is that according to coconut idendity card its 4 weeks old but i dunno if ya can go on that. Useage wise its perfect. Not a single problem at all. And the whole thing about heat is not bad at all. On battery it hardy gets hot at all. Gets warm alright but thats kinda expected. When plugged into the power yes it get warmer but nothing that burns you or is stupidly hot. Screen has been fine, no flaking, no failures etc so its all good for me
