I have a new macbook pro 2.2ghz model. I had one previous to this that was replaced due to defect. I fear I may have a problem with this as well, but I am not sure. I've read of problems regarding games with the new mbp. I get tearing in alot of games I've tried except lego star wars 2. Prey is the worst..I turn Vsync on and it still tears like crazy. Both games are run in osx. I do not have a windows partition for games. I also get tearing when watching some videos online (not dvds). http://www.gametrailers.com/player/24429.html from about half way through onward I get tearing (where there is alot of action taking place). Does anyone else with this model mbp experience this? I'm curious as to what it could be and any help would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to try anything to help diagnose the problem. After the first failed mbp I was assigned a specialist to make sure everything ran right and when I mentioned this the specialist admitted to knowing nothing about the gaming and graphics card, so I'm hoping the REAL specialists here can help me. I think he means that everything looks blury, like when you have a bad lcd-screen with e.g. 60ms response time
no it's not blurry. There are horizontal lines/jags across the video play area. http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/macpro/macpro_pics/tearing-halo-1.jpg this is an example of what I am seeing. It flashes in and out in different places when I play the video..usually when there's alot going on or motion.
I am seeing that a lot too! The other day, I had my MBP hooked to a LCD TV with a VGA cable watching some 720p x264, I noticed the tearing a lot and I thought it was just my crappy VGA cable, but now that I saw the video you linked and I know it's more than that. For me, the problem seems to be towards the bottom half of the movies mostly, I haven't really noticed anything on the top half of the videos that I played.

Its certainly possible, though a highly unlikely occurance.
Anyways, I just watched a Devil May Cry 4 video and it was flawless(also from the same site the OP linked to), so now I am very relieved, and even more certain that the problem lies with the videos that the OP linked to, not the computer.
I'm no film whiz, but I do know there are tons of different techniques for editing and compressing video. Also from what I hear, game trailers are usually done half-assed when compared to the real thing. I wouldn't worry about this unless you start seeing in constantly in EVERY video you watch.
Not certain why you're seeing this in games though
It hasn't been happening in every video. I've heard of some tearing and problems after the firmware update...so I'm hoping to see some differences with the new firmware update when they release it. I've only been trying game demos...no full versions yet. Sometimes the demos don't come updated and then the patch only works on the full version. Plus I heard some of aspyrs games are buggy anyway. Lego Star Wars 2 worked flawessly, though. Thanks for the help!
