I know this issue has been addressed on the forum before but because of the insufficient ability to ask the right question, a clear answer never comes out.

I'm planning on selling my 15" powerbook and upgrading to a Macbook pro 2.4 ghz. I know this machine does excellent with current games but I was curious as to how it would run with games coming out in the next year (i.e. Crysis). By playable, i mean the settings can be downgraded slightly but overall the video game would run fluid and not choppy.

*keep in mind i'm referring to gaming on a native windows boot.

thanks

It should run them alright, but nobody really knows because those games aren't out yet. If you really want a laptop to run next years games on the highest settings and whatnot, you should buy a laptop next year... High end laptop graphics cards are never as good as those on desktops, and that's where people get the best results out of their games. It should run those games, yes, but will they run well? Nobody knows.

yup, im a little dissapointed at how unreal tournament 2004 runs on my mbp even with all normal graphic settings

Is that an isolated/game specific issue? WoW runs amazingly, with framerates well into the hundreds in areas.

I agree that if you need graphics power to support applications that aren't out yet then you're best waiting until they are.

its the only game i have lol, and it is universal binary...but its just a bit choppy, i mean i can run the PC version on a radeon 9600 and itll run smooth, but not on this system for some reason, hopefully leopard will help...?

Its gotta be something else squeeks. I've got a C1D MBP with 2GB of ram and a 128mb vid card, and it runs ut2004 perfectly smooth with every setting maxed out.

You sure you're using the universal binary?

Dude you have a better rig than me (more ram and HD), but otherwise I have the same system. I run UT2004 Highest settings, Highest resolution, All settings enabled, and its Completely smooth. I'm not really sure the fps, but i think in onslaught (with 20+ bots) i get like over 60fps. You may have the demo? ... Or something?

full version on DVD, has the universal binary logo on the box, i was running it on a secondary monitor with mirroring but i dont think this should matter, well, let me try it right now and see what happens

ok so it does play pretty good it just feels a bit choppy, like wait for vertical sync isnt tured on, i find that that makes gameplay much smoother

that must be all you my man... i can play ut 2004 on my powerbook 1.33 pretty flawlessly
