Hi All

Just wondering how borked my 2011 MBP is. It has an SSD upgrade and 8GB RAM.

Today I plugged it in as it had no charge and I entered the password (as my drive is encrypted) it gets the progress bar then white screen and reboots after a while.

I have tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. It won’t boot into Recovery or Safe mode (white screen hang). I managed to get verbose mode and this is the last lines before it goes to a white screen.

I tried a new drive and boot to internet recovery just downloads and then goes to white screen. Won’t boot off of USB either. I get the selection screen and then white.

Is it time to put it to rest? I can read the drive in another Mac fine.

If you plug in another monitor, does that work? 2011 MBPs (15-in) are notorious for GPU failures. An easy enough thing to try. But from your description it may be more serious than this.

Unfortunately I don’t have a dongle any more. Tbh I think you are right it may have finally come to a GPU issue.

Had a good run though. Was my first Apple MacBook. Sad times. At least I can still get the data off the drive.

I’ll probably give that a go. If anything should tie me over until I can get a new one. Thanks for the link.
