Hello
Anyone regret adding a second drive in the MacBook Pro 2012 and later?
they are selling kits for this on a 'fix it" website.
I can also use the dvd as an external device, which I already have one.

thanks in advance!

I bought the PATA version of the ifixit kit in my old 2009 system and it was decent. My cat killed the computer though.

Probably save a lot of trouble just to leave the DVD drive where it is, and get a small external SSD to be "the second drive"...

Thanks for the reply!

this is what I am doing now, I have a USB3 going to a external drive running a WD 500 with Monterey.
just the external drive has a button to power on and the chord thingee is getting a tad uncomfortable.
my concern is doing something were the drive breaks
or something falls off like the Mini, but im not touching the logic board.

recently had to replace the ribbon connection to the internal drive which was no problem.
what is nice is Monterey on an external can retrieve file from the Mojave drive.

IFIXIT is the only vendor out there selling these, so I will use them.

Oh those cats!

my cat somehow knocked off my 2010 MacBook Air back in 2017 off a desk
the only damage was the keyboard ribbon was dislodge and I could not type q-p.
I finally remedied this in Dec26th 2019 were I finally secured the ribbon perfectly!

the cat is still a mischievous creature with more fur and pounds.
