MacBook Pro 2014, NVIDIA 750. For the past fortnight, the screen keeps going black when the battery appears to have sufficient charge. I've tried PRAM and a couple of other button combinations and it turns on only to show the depleted battery symbol. I've tried SMC, and twice running the battery completely down and fully recharging it as recommended on 'ifixit' but the depleted battery symbol remains. I imagine that the battery could be depleted and showing a false percentage when using the charger but wondered if it could be something else.

The 2014 15" models have know logic board issues...could well be that the problem is there. Tried an external screen, see if that keeps working?

Is it the original battery?

Are you anywhere near a brick n mortar Apple Store?
If so, have you considered visiting and inquiring as to whether or not you would qualify for the $199 battery replacement option?

I replaced the battery in my 2014 MacBook Pro May 2021 as it indicated battery service required. An original battery of eight years old - would be rather remarkable that it still holds a charge.

My sister's 2010 white MacBook still has the orignal battery, and it still holds a charge. Not nearly as long as it once did, but it still works.

It is the original battery. The System Report and iStat say that the battery health is normal (83%.) The battery cycle: 383. It's a persional rather than work computer so not really heavily used.

I'll see if I qualify for the battery replacement option you suggest, thanks. I imagine the same offer applies in the UK.
