I have a A1502 Macbook Pro with i7 and 16Gb of RAM.

Machine works perfect, except for keyboard issues.

I would very much like to make this machine run, but the keys from A->L is not responding.

I ordered a new keyboard and backlight, and swapped it. Not that difficult but 2h and 50€ job. And still exact same problem.

I also have the ribbon cable from the trackpad -> mainboard swapped. Problem still there.

There is no signs of leaks or damage (fluids) anywhere in the machine..

Has anyone had similar problem? What was the fix?

Very thankful for any suggestions here that will bring the machine back to usable state, i am sure it will run many years with no hassle if i manage to fix this. It is in prestine condition..

Thanks!

I have a similar problem with the 1QAZ row of keys stopped working on an older 13" MacBook Pro. I can't remember the exact year model. Apple said I need is a new keyboard and at the time it was just too much for what the computer was worth so I didn't fix it.

What made you think it was the ribbon cable for the trackpad or main board?

I have read that the Ribbon cable for the Trackpad can cause various problems with the keyboard, and that should be first and most easy thing to troubleshoot since it is a 5 minute fix.

However, now since i did change the cable and the keyboard and the exact same row of keys are problematic i am assuming this is related to main-board. However i am not sure.

Strange things can happen with laptops, and one never knows how one component can affect the other.

I would be very happy if someone with similar problem could advise on the solution.

there
My MacBook Air fell in 2017 and the q-p keys would not work
the problem was the ribbon was not 100% attached, which I finally fixed in 2019.

this problem is your logic board or the connection is not 100% secure.
At this tech shop I worked at we always check each other work when ribbons an connection things were replaced.
several times the ribbon was not 100% connected or broken by removing the ribbon.

as far as a solution, just recheck the ribbon to the trackpad
and make sure there are no slight gaps and the ribbon is perfectly straight.
my MBA typing problem took almost 2 years (and a temporary switch to Dell) to finally fix,

so don't give up!
