(I'm not a computer expert) I broke the display screen of my MacBook Pro 2015 15inch a1398 . I'm not sure if the pixels are broken or the screen as well, but I think both since it fell. This model is the most powerful version both in terms of graphics and storage. I don't know if it makes sense to buy a new laptop or try to repair it. I was thinking of buying a new screen and trying to assemble it myself, but the price is not low, about 300. In addition, I would also have to replace the battery, which is almost dead. Since I don't need a high-performance laptop, I was thinking that perhaps it would be more convenient to buy a low-cost Windows laptop. What do you think should I do?

It's probably not worth attempting a repair as 15" 2015 MBPs are so cheap to buy used. I got my most recent 2015 MBP with 2.5GHz processor & AMD Radeon graphics for £174 on eBay a couple of months ago.

I had a 2015 MBP 13", and it was the best MBP to date at the time. And much better than the butterfly-keyboard versions that came afterwards.

BUT...
It's now NINE YEARS OLD.
The costs of repairing that one (new display and battery) aren't worth it any more.

Might be time to pick up a closeout M3 or M3pro MacBook Pro.
Here in the USA, they're on sale pricing right now (don't know where you are).

Old saying applies:
If you NEED now, then BUY now.
Looks to me like YOU need a replacement NOW.
So... unless you're willing to wait for the m4's (won't be shipping until late Oct. or early Nov., I think)... get an m3 at low pricing NOW.

Thanks for the info i guess is better to replace with a new one.

if you have some advice, i'm in usa right now, i don’t need a very powerful laptop because I will use it for university. And i don’t want to spend more than 500$

I see good refurbish laptop on the back market site but maybe is less expensive buy used laptop on eBay. Do you have some advice?

You're basically talking about $400 in repairs... $300 for the screen + ~$99 for the battery + the cost of your time to pull it apart and do the repair.

Just checked eBay for you.... you can literally grab one of these for like $300 and it's in working order. I've had good success finding used machines there.... I would probably do that to be honest. Seems like the more cost effective use of $$ + your time trying to figure it out, but only you know what your time is worth!

A brand new MacBook Air is about $750 to $799. The model with the M1 processor may still be available for a little bit less. They are excellent!

So I would encourage you to get either a new M1 MacBook Air or visit a Best Buy for an Open Box or Customer Return model, which will be about $100 less. I know this is just a little more than you want to spend, but it will be well worth it for longevity.

The entry level models have 8 GB of RAM and just 256 GB of storage, but you can later add an external SSD for terabytes of storage. None of the current models are internally upgradable for RAM or Storage.
