Hi All,

2015 15" rMBP - 1TB/16GB Ram
macOS Monterey 12.7.4
Safari 17.4.1.

My rMBP has been having issues lately whereby Safari suddenly just quits. Restarting Safari results in it starting but with the dreaded spinning wheel. Only option is to do a full restart or turn fully off & back on again. However, when restarting/turning on again, it takes an awfully long time for the laptop to come on - either a blank black screen followed eventually by the Apple logo or a shorter blank black screen followed by the Apple Logo which stays on a a long time - around 5 mins.

Can anyone please tell me why this is happening & what can be done to resolve? I am somewhat concerned by the very long start up times.

Many Thanks
Bazzy!

Sounds like Safari either has outdated/corrupt extensions or a corrupt cache. I'd say remove any extensions you've got, and also clear the cache (should be Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Mange Website Data, and then just delete everything).

Or just use a modern and up to date browser like Firefox. :p (this is realistically a better solution since your version of Safari is old enough that it won't support newer web technology)

Hi,

Thanks kindly for the input! May I ask - Does clearing the cache remove/delete ant data/info/settings etc? Do I need to re-install/reset anything afterwards?

Please see my list of extensions - most disabled currently - can I disable them or should I actually delete them?

I have tried to check if a higher version of Safari is available but it shows no software upgrade. I am so used to doing things the Safari way that I might struggle with another Browser & do not know if say Firefox will work in sync with other Apple apps like mail etc?

Many Thanks
