Hello fellow MBP 2016/17 owners,
What is the status of your internal SSD SMART Status?
Mine is labelled "Not Supported". Is yours the same?

My old 2014 MBP 13 inch with 512 GB SSD however, has SMART Status: Verified.

Is it normal for the 2016 and 2017 MBP to have their SSD SMART Status: Not Supported?

Thank you very much!

Not sure there's ever been SMART support with Apple and SSD's has there? Not sure it's of much use to an SSD anyway. But what you're saying is normal.

There was on my 2014 rMBP. I noticed none of the third party SMART tools like DriveDX work either on my 2016.

This is strange... my 2014 rMBP shows SMART status as 'verified'. In fact, when I replaced the spinning hard drive in with an SSD in my wife's 2011 iMac, I had to manually enable SMART. It too now shows 'verified.' I wonder why it is not supported on the drives in the new Pros...

I get my 2017 15" tomorrow. I'll check it first thing.

There is some discussion on the smartmontools page of NVMe support and driver updates, so I wonder if these newer NVMe devices are not supported without driver updates. I know DriveDX and many of these apps use smartmontools as the core of their app. Still does not explain why Apple would not update Disk Util with whatever drivers are needed to do this though.

Yes, as Weaselboy said, I have found that the new Apple SSD NVMe are basically SSD with different controller (NVMe) and that the controller or something does not support SMART which is probably an old software now?
