Hi everyone, today I wanted to clean the fans of my mbp and while I took the backplate off I think I damaged the protective layer (that covers a the metal?) of one of interior components (see pictures). I put it back together and it works fine but should I worry about damage that could unfold in the long term? Does anyone know what the damage component is? I am a bit worried and thankful for any answers!

That's part of the battery and what you have there is very dangerous and is a substantial fire risk.

Same happened to me, Not as large, but two slashes on two battery components. And I took it to the Apple Store. I did not have Apple Care and was out of Warranty but the super Nice Apple Genius girl hooked me up. And said it was factory internal damage the repair would have been like $500+. This was Pre-Covid-19 era. And I always feel like I owed her a big favor. she blessed me big time. It is A major fire hazard.
They replaced the whole battery assembly even the good one aNd some other Mother board components that I didn’t even know were bad.

I wouldn't even keep that inside the house for now -- too dangerous!

Get the battery replaced as soon as possible.
