Hi I just got a 2019 Macbook Pro and it is running OS Ventura. When I am typing a text message it suddenly decides to open a new message. Same thing happens while typing in Notes. It opens a new note mid sentence. Driving me insane. I have to start typing over again as part of my sentence(s) are in the new note or in user address field in the new message in Messages.

Any ideas? This has never happened to me before with all of the previous Macbook Pros and OSes over the years. But it is a serious productivity drag and infuriating.

Any ideas?

Me too (but not Notes). I believe it is the trackpad sensitivity that is reacting to your palm proximity. When I keep my hands higher the cursor is much more stable.

Thanks. I was thinking that as well, so I have been trying to raise my hand off of this larger trackpad (larger than my 2015 MBPro), but it still happens. There is something triggering this when I hit some key combination when typing it seems. Which is bizarre. Hasn't happened in MS Word so far... So it may both hand proximity and key combo. But as I mentioned, I never had this issue before....

I am doing what I always do on the laptop. Only things that have changed are my upgrade to the 2019 MBPro, and Ventura OS.

And since I stare at my keys while typing, I have yet to witness/pinpoint when this happens. I look up to read what I wrote on my external monitor, and it has already happened....... So need to do some structured troubleshooting to eyeball it.

I am hoping for a magical setting(s) change to resolve, but thus far I am unsuccessful.

Touchpad can be nightmare when typing - for me accidental touches move cursor and do weird stuff. So that is possibility.
But in macOS there are keyboard shortcuts for everything. Is it possible you accidentally hit different key than expected (may be include control with the shift) and that when combined with letter can start new application or whatever? Shortcut keys can be assigned globally in System settings, Keyboard, Keyboard shortcuts or per application in its settings (sometimes). Applications can have their own set of defined shortcuts, which overwrite system ones when app is used as top...
There are applications dedicated to showing you which shortcuts are at any specific point used, I use KeyCue. It is interesting to see.
I try to use with external mouse and keyboard, when possible.

Thanks. I am trying to find settings as you mention that may point to a solution. I just don't get why this is happening when it has not been an issue before with previous Macs and OSes. I may have to look into KeyCue. Thanks for the tip.

Doesn't solve everything, but check your hot corners and turn off Quick Note if that's popping up for you.
Thanks. I checked the hot corners at your suggestion, and nothing to indicate that this is a contributing factor. QuickNote has not been popping up at all..

If you have a 2019 13" or 15," you may be having keyboard problems due to the faulty butterfly keyboard that these computers have. This can show as repeated keys, keys which don't register properly, or keys which don't move correctly. The 2019 16" is not affected by these problems, however.

So i now notice this issue with my online bank, for example when paying a bill and trying to write a memo for what the payment is for. All of a sudden, I am on a different screen. Also I notice when doing something similar with my son's online tuition payment just now. This is absolutely infuriating and a monumental waste of my time to retype stuff.

It definitely sounds like a hardware problem of some kind. If you just got the computer I would see about returning it.

Hi, apologies for the belated update. I think I figured out the issue. It appears to be the ULTRA sensitive Touch Bar. I rest my left hand on the MAC, and my fingers sometimes extend over the first few “buttons” on the touchbar. This seems to trigger the bar to execute the action associated with the touchbar "button".

So, once I "observed" this, I experimented with the Keyboard settings panel that houses the touchbar settings. I switched it from application centric to basic MAC commands. So now, it just shuts the screen down if I brush over the left side of the bar. Today, I moved the “buttons" around, so that if I brush the left side, it just dims the keyboard. But there is no way I can find to adjust sensitivity. Ultra sensitive is an understatement!

This is my first Touch Bar MAC, so it was baffling!

Thanks a lot everyone for your replies.
