Is this model MacBook Pro the new 2020 model with the new keyboard?

Model # A2159 / MUHP2LL/A
8GB and 256GB drive.

i know someone selling for $1,000 new sealed in box.
Costco price is $1,300

Good price??
For my son starting college in the fall, should I wait?
Is the memory upgrade able?

Nope, it’s last years model. Has butterfly keyboard. No current Mac laptop has upgradable memory. You need to buy the amount you need up front. Some of the desktops can be upgraded.
Does the school he is attending have any specific computer requirements? Some schools also offer purchase deals with 4 years service along with loaners. Worth checking out.

I don't think you should buy a "new, sealed in the box" this week, unless the seller can show you a copy of their sales receipt. (or, maybe if you really do know the seller personally, enough to trust that person)
(memory is soldered in place, and has not been upgradeable in any Apple laptop for several years.)

Positive is last year Butterfly?
This guy I know from a car group we belong to.

School has not mentioned anything, I just know he will need a laptop.

I know the seller, but he told me it is this year's just released 2020 model. Not sure what to say.

Here it is at Costco:

Is there any specific reference to know for sure if the model has the old butterfly keyboard?
Thanks for the help.

I don't see Apple reusing the same model number for the 2020 models. Maybe you don't know him as well as you think 🤷‍♂️

Or maybe he doesn't really know for sure...I don't know.
So at $1,000 not worth it?

Could be. From what I've read the last generation of butterfly keyboards didn't have the same issues as the older ones but by then everyone hated it. If something goes wrong with the keyboard within a few years Apple will fix it. If money is critical then it might be worth it. I mean 1k is about 300 off what you would pay at B&H

Maybe he bought it last month, and Whoever sold it told him (probably correctly more than two or three weeks ago) that it was the current model, which it was less than one month ago.
The A2159 / MUHP2LL/A is definitely the 2019 model (with the previous keyboard) (and is the higher RAM model that did sell for $1499 - so $1000 is a nice price, if you bought it before the new models came out.
Equivalent new (2020) model would be A2289 / MXK32LL/A, and of course, Apple doubled the RAM for each model in the new ones, but kept the same price levels.
Your friend probably tried to get the seller to trade for the new model, but didn't get that deal, so now wants the best price he can get back on last year's model (I mean, last month's model

Thanks all, good info.
I wish Costco would specify the year model on their page.

I may buy it and hold it until the fall which is when my son would go to college....actually if I bought it now then most likely he'd want to start using it and getting to learn MacBook better

Assuming this won't drop in price that much.
