MacBook Pro and External Display

Hooked up an external 22" monitor to my MacBook Pro.

I want the external monitor to be the primary device when connected; displaying the dock, desktop icons etc while maintaining it's maximum resolution.

Mirroring results in my external monitor having a lower resolution.

I don't require my MacBook Pro's display to be on when using the external display.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Isn't this the way they have them set up at the apple stores?

(23" ACD main display using the MBP on an iCurve as a secondary)

1. Go to system preferences (in the blue apple menu if not in your dock)
2. In the second row there is an option called "Displays" click it.
3. Go to arrangement.
4. When you see the two blue windows next to each other one has a white bar on the top. Drag the white bar over to the other.
5. Once that has been acomplished go to the display options. There should be one on each screen assuming your displays are not mirrored (press fn+F7 or uncheck mirrored in the display options if this is the case) adjust your screen resolution. The MBP should be 1440x900 and the 22inch display is some where around the range of 1680x1050.
