I recently got an imac and now need a macbook pro for the prodability. The questions, which is similar to a previous thread, are 2 macs better than one, should I keep both computers or unload the imac. Power is not a concern, my daily computing does not require much power. I thought about the macbook but don't want a 13 in screen. I am just thinking that having both is a duplication. Is a notebook reliable enough to be the only computer that I have?

Is that a new feature they've built in? :p ;)

Seriously though, I personally don't see any reason for having both even, especially since they're specs are almost identical. If you really need the portability, ditch the iMac and just have a MBP. If you want extra screen space, get an external monitor. My PB is essentially the only computer I've used for the last year and a half, and I haven't had any reliability problems just because it's a laptop. :)

I agree. The MacBook Pro and iMac are so similar in specifications and performance right now that I reckon you may as well just have the MacBook Pro and sell the iMac. :)

Well...I own an iMac & Powerbook, and I love having a set workstation with a nice big 20" screen + the portability of my 15" PB...

I'd suggest the setup that I have, as it sounds like it would suit you very well also. I've got my MacBook for portability, and a 20" Dell monitor for when I'm sitting down at my desk and using the computer. I think having two computers is often overkill. As far as reliability of the notebooks, I definitely think that they're reliable enough to be used as your primary computer. I've only used notebooks for the past 4 years, and haven't had a problem.

I'm the same way. I have a 17" MBP and a 20" iMac. The iMac sits at home and downloads torrents all day and is also the base station for my iTunes library, photo library and videos. It has a 500GB internal HD, something I can't get on my MBP without the aid of my 3TB of external storage, which plugging and unplugging is a pain due to the need for all the drives to spin up (all 5 of them) and settle down in order to be ejected. The iMac is also my Windows gaming rig. All of my PC games are loaded up on it, giving my MBP the freedom to be my portable "get it done" rig without being bogged down with the music library, Windows partition, and photo library.

Ditch the imac and get the powerbook. After using multiple computers for a long time i feel two computers are more of a hastle now a days. That said i generally keep a slightly old laptop as a back up machine.

Yea. get a MacBook Pro with a 20 inch Cinema display. It will look sick, you can use the big screen when your at home and still be able to bring the laptop with you.
