Alright then,

I've got a MacBook Pro on it's way to me and I want to make sure I get the best out of it's battery. Are there certain things I should be doing.

For example, I've heard that when you first get it you should let it do a complete charge before even turning it on. Then you should let it do a complete discharge once it's on.

Are these true? I was kind of hoping that i could just turn it on as soon as I plug it in, but if there are things I can do to make the battery better in the long run then I'll make my sacrifice.

Help would be appreciated!

i believe it is recommended that you fully charge the system and then do a full discharge followed by a full charge. or it might be a full discharge followed by a full charge. either way the computer doesn't have to be off.

You do not need to worry about damaging your battery by simply using the system as soon as you plug it in. The charge/discharge cycle is simply to calibrate the battery so that the battery meter will be able to give you a more accurate reading on how much charge you have remaining when you're operating under battery power.

Plug it in and start using it, when you take a break, look in the manual and follow the calibration instructions. They're pretty straightforward.

Have fun!

Calibrating your battery

The MBP manual says you should calibrate your battery within the first week of recieving your computer.

Look in your manual for the directions on how to do it.

edit: whoops just saw the post above mine lol

Cool, thanks for the tips. At least I can put the bad-boy on as soon as I get it now!
