Currently for where I live it is cheaper to buy the 15” 2.6/16/512/560x 2018 off bh photo for $2499 because they don’t charge tax, and even though refurb is $2379 after tax it’s like $2550.
I bought a refurb 2018 13” i5/16/512 for $1869 after tax it was $1980. On bh photo it is $2049. I kept my refurb rather than taking it back and getting the new one for $70 more because my refurb is like brand new from what I can tell, minus the box it came in.

From past experiences, Apple products rarely receive a discount on Black Friday. Sometimes, they tend to include something in the purchase similar to their student deals (a discount on an iPad or sometimes accessories)
If you're hoping to score a nice discount on a macbook, I wouldn't count on it. The best deals around are from B&H on the previous year models (in this case, a 2017 model) which can be discounted anywhere in excess of $1000. For example, they're selling 2017 15 inch pro with 1tb SSD for $1000 below retail (totaling $2500) The machines are brand new in the box and still eligible for Applecare as well.
I'm waiting for next years model (2019) to be released so I can pick up a 2018 model from B&H with a similar discount.

Doubtful any Black Friday "deal" will beat refurbished. Also, you got some good advice from the prior posters. Official Apple refurbished products are in excellent condition, so you can buy them with confidence. The best piece of advice is to wait to buy until the next generation comes out, i.e. buy last year's model, when the price reductions can be significant. This works particularly well with Apple products because the company has excellent support for deprecated products. For example, I'm not buying an iPhone Xs until the iPhone 11 -- or maybe even iPhone 12 -- is released.
Refurbished are excellent values. Unless I buy with some sort of deal, (eg. buying my daughter a computer for college during Back to School), I almost always buy refurb and prefer it. Not only do you get it a bit cheaper. In addition, a refurb is repaired and QA'd before sale. Thus, I think the reliability going forward might be a bit better. And it comes with the standard warranty. And you can purchase AppleCare. I, personally, do not see any downside to intelligently buying a refurb.
