Hi all

Very happy with my MacBook Pro C2D 15.4" - however, when I play some cd's (note, _some_ CD's) its quite noisy - sort of buzzing - implying that the CD is unbalanced somehow.

It varies between disks - most are quiet, but some do buzz quite a bit. Do you think this is normal (due to the thin drive)? or do I have a duff drive?

I've never had it fail to read one, or anything like that - just a bit noisy on some disks.. tell me to shut up if its to be expected!

I've had cd's do this on every laptop I've owned... The worst buzzing I've had has been WindowsXP installation cd's. It buzzed really bad on my HP laptop and it buzzed really bad on my MBP. I think my Adobe CS installation cd buzzed pretty bad as well.

Maybe I just hadn't noticed before - and maybe the new superdrives spin quicker.. it was a disconcerting buzz the first time, but I'm reassured that its only the occasional disk

Hi,

My MBP also makes that unnerving buzzing noise when I insert Disc 1 of the MBP install CD!

I thought my laptop was gonna turn into a helicopter and fly away!

I dunno if that's normal or not. It doesn't quite do it with other CD's.

Of all the discs I tried, the one CD that the laptop comes with makes the buzzing noise... Go figure...

Do you guys think I should get a replacement model? I think the optical drive may be mis-aligned.

Thoughts?

I just picked up a black MacBook this week. It is a C2D week 50, 2006. So far the thing has been fantastic and runs virtually slient until a CD or DVD is inserted and then it is VERY loud when the Superdrive is spinning any faster than slow. Its an unbalanced vibrating kind of loud. I'd even wager its the loudest I've heard on any Mac or PC I've owned to date.

Also, when you insert or eject a CD or DVD it sounds like something is getting seriously crunched, but then everything appears to work fine.

The Superdrive model in my MacBook is: HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MB

Perhaps this model of Superdrive is just really loud?
