Sorry for some what may be a basic question I am an old fart who loves his cd drive. if the rumors are true and the new macbook pro will not have an optical drive how would i load my software that i have on cd that i bought for my iMac? thanks and sorry if this so incredibly basic..

If they do away with the internal drive, you can always use an external drive, or use a drive from another computer, using Remote Disc.
 
You buy an external CD/DVD drive or use CD/DVD Sharing with your iMac.
Look at System Preferences > Sharing to see that option.
You could also just make DMG or CDR of the install DVD and use the resulting file, shared via Ethernet or WiFi to your MBP, to install from.
That is what I did. I copied all my install media onto HDD and made CDRs out of them via Disk Utility, thus I don't need the CDs and DVDs anymore.
