Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with my 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2015). The computer crashes immediately upon connecting the power cable, displaying the message "Your computer restarted because of a problem..." before restarting. After rebooting to the FileVault password screen, I am unable to enter keypresses or move the mouse using the trackpad. Connecting a USB mouse or keyboard does not resolve the issue. The trackpad and keyboard only function correctly when the power cable is disconnected.

I have attempted the following troubleshooting steps with no success:

  • PRAM/NVRAM Reset: No change
  • Startup Manager: Keyboard/trackpad work until I select the boot device
  • Safe Mode: Keyboard/trackpad work until reaching FileVault
  • Apple Diagnostics: No issues found
The MacBook Pro operates normally when not connected to a power source. I would prefer to restore the system from a backup, but Time Machine is unable to create a backup with the power supply connected. I would also like to start the system without FileVault, but decrypting the drive requires the power cable to be connected.

For context, I replaced the battery with an iFixit replacement 67 charge cycles ago, and its status is reported as "good."

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or have suggestions for further troubleshooting?

Thank you.

I also disconnected the battery and started the MacBook with a connected power cable. I am able to use trackpad/keyboard but it will crash at logging in.

What OS are you running? Have you tried using a good-quality usb-c cable to connect the power supply to the computer instead of using the magsafe cable? If you can come up with another power supply, it might not hurt to try that too. You can try contacting Apple Support, and I would definitely call iFixit, since it's their battery that you're using. Those are just a few ideas, I really don't have a clue what's going on except that it seems to involve the power supply and/or filevault.

I use macOS Monterey 12.7.6.
I already tried different other power supplies - no change at all.
The 2015 MBP is not able to get charged via USB-C. It doesn't even has USB-C ports...

I misread something at everymac. Can you come up with another magsafe cable to try? Are you able to successfully boot into Recovery mode? If so, consider running First Aid on the disk from Recovery. Sorry, don't have any really good ideas, maybe someone else can make a suggestion.
