MacBook Pro Disc Reading Help

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro to take to college with me. Everything works great except that whenever I insert a disc with a program on it, for example Microsoft Office or Warcraft III, that type of thing, it makes a few attempts to read it and then spits it out. Every once in a while it will read the disc but more often than not it will just eject it. It reads CDs with music on them just fine. Any help would be greatly apprectiated!

Definitely.

It tends to work after I let the computer sleep for 30 minutes or so, but even then sometimes it won't.

Okay, assuming the discs aren't scratched then maybe something is messed up with your drive's settings. Resetting the PRAM may help if this is the case.

If I do this will I need to reinstall or change anything after its done or will my computer still have everything I have put on it?

Nah, it'll be fine. It just resets some internal firmware settings.

I'm having a similar issue too..

My MBP CD drive used to work fine (and still does), except whenever i login to my computer - the drive makes the funkiest noises i've ever heard... As if its trying to read a disc when there's actually nothing inserted!

Anyone else having similar issues with the drive?

I get a funky (clunk) noise when I wake my iBook from sleep. Could it be the same noise?

Resetting PRAM didnt work

Okay, try resetting the PMU then. Once again, you won't lose any important data or need to reinstall anything. It will reset your clock but that'll update the next time you connect to the 'net.

Call AppleCare. Sounds like a bad drive and there is really nothing else that can be done that wasn't already suggested in this thread.

Call AppleCare and tell them the steps you've already tried.
